Electronic wedding invitations? It’s okay!

Congratulate me, I’m married! Five years ago… And it wasn’t even that the ceremony budget was limited… But paper invitations? Come on! What century are we living in? Yeah, I get it, traditions, but I don’t care. ;)

In this article, I want to tell you how to make an electronic invitation, so that the paper version will sit nervously in the corner!

Advantages

  1. Let’s start with the fact that an electronic invitation is nothing to be ashamed of. It’s free, as long as you can make it yourself! But a custom-made one will definitely cost more than designing and printing the cards at a print shop. So who’s a loser after that? :)
  2. We don’t worry about the guest list at all. No matter how it changes, it’s all generated in any quantity on the fly.
  3. Well, yes, they are personalized. After all, you and I, my friend, know a little about programming, and our page is not static at all.
  4. Where have you seen an animated paper invitation? No matter how the design changes, it all comes down to a simple, unadorned piece of cardboard with little to offer.
  5. There’s no need to physically deliver the invitation. Just send a personalized link. And in this day and age, information delivery is no problem.
  6. So far, it’s very original. Of all my friends, I’m the only one who thought of this. I think it’s a good way to surprise people.

Flaws

  1. It’s impossible to invite people who don’t have internet access. Do you know anyone who doesn’t? ;)
  2. You can’t wipe your ass with an electronic invitation. The argument?
  3. Some idiot will say he was expecting a personal envelope, but this whole thing is just bullshit. It’s probably best not to invite people like that.

How it looked in my example

First of all, I didn’t want to strip the invitations of their personal touch. That is, not something like «Hi, Anon, come to our party,» but rather something with respect and the name of the person being invited. Eventually, I even came up with different invitation texts for different categories of friends, but that was more of a joke. :)

To avoid too much hassle, I used WordPress as a base, selected the most suitable skin, and set about customizing it for the task at hand. The plugins I installed included Countdown Widget, Elementor, Meta slider, and carousel with lightbox, and, most importantly, PHP Code Widget. The default theme I used is called «Truelove.»

The result of all the work was this:

The original website is still working and can be found at http://wd.ex.uz

Well, here I will leave an example of my code, inserted into the PHP Code Widget block, thanks to which the invitations become personalized.

Links are generated by calling a link like http://wd.ex.uz/?t=1&n=Вася. Next, copy the link and send it to Vasya.

Sure, you can order printed invitations like everyone else. But truly, what’s made with your own hands and from the heart is the most precious thing!
